She started working at Longmont Small Animal Hospital in November 2017 and is very happy to be spending her first years as a technician learning and growing with such a great team! Chamblee Abernethy, Receptionist

Chamblee is from Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1991. She went back to school for a paralegal certification and spent the first 13 years of her career in a law firm. During that time, she got involved in dog rescue. That volunteer work led Chamblee to forgo her career as a paralegal to work in veterinary medicine. She started her second career at The Village Vets in Atlanta where she was the senior receptionist and rescue coordinator. After 15 years volunteering in rescue and advocating/lobbying in Georgia, Chamblee decided to move to the more humane State of Colorado with plans to transport homeless dogs and cats from the severely pet over-populated Southeast to Colorado. In 2013, she and her sister co-founded Southern Mutts Rescue Wagon and have since made nine life-saving cross-country treks with their truck and horse trailer, bringing more than 500 deserving animals to find their forever homes in Colorado. Chamblee joined Longmont Small Animal Hospital in the summer of 2016. She lives with her sister and their five dogs and two horses at Southern Mutts Ranch near Lyons. A former multi-sport athlete, Chamblee loves the outdoors, hiking, trail running and mountain biking ….with dogs.
